Description of duties

This graduate assistantship is not tied to a specific project. The successful candidate will have latitude to select and refine the thesis topic within the overall program objectives. Potential research areas include: robotic systems for weed management in nursery crops; reproductive biology and fecundity of weeds in soilless crop production; physiology and management of weedy cyanobacteria; alternative management strategies for living mulch systems in conifer production; or other topics of mutual interest (and future funding potential). The student will participate in other project research and in Extension education programs on weed management in nursery crops and landscape plantings.

Qualifications sought

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Horticulture, Crop Science, Agronomy, Weed Science, Plant Science, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated excellence in course work, written and oral communication skills, and ability to work independently and a team member are required.
  • Demonstrated interest in Weed Science, nursery crop production, horticultural crop production, landscape management, or related fields.
  • GRE is required
  • Must be able to establish North Carolina residency within one year***
